Your exciting day out starts early morning at your chosen pick-up point. Our experienced driver will welcome you aboard our comfy, COVID-safe minibus. Settle back to enjoy the drive south on the famous Bruce Highway. You’ll journey through the Beerburrum East State Forest, with the Glass House Mountains on your right then down through the northern suburbs of Brisbane to your first stop, the jetty on the South Bank of the river. We can’t miss it, as it’s smack bang in front of the famous Wheel of Brisbane.
Climb aboard the MV Neptune, a boutique-style boat with spacious decks, and a covered area if you’re not in the mood for sunshine and blue skies. The friendly, experienced crew will welcome you with a nice cup of tea and a fun and informative commentary on your riverway adventure. From the decks, you’ll have uninterrupted views of the iconic river scenery and plenty of opportunities for photos and video. You’ll meander at a relaxed pace past Brisbane’s most iconic offerings including the Kangaroo Point Cliffs, City Centre, and the Story Bridge.
Don’t get too comfortable because mid-morning it’s time to disembark from the MV Neptune to journey back in time – to the Breakfast Creek Hotel. The Brekky Creek is one of Australia’s oldest and most iconic hotels, and it even has its own ghost. Built way back in 1889, it’s had so many dining ‘firsts’ – first beer garden dining in the 1950s, first drive-through bottle shop in the 1960s, and first for Mexican dining in the Spanish Garden restaurant, again in the 1960s – something that Australians weren’t quite ready for. Today it boasts “beer off the wood’ and a reputation as Queensland’s best-loved pub. You’ll have a quick stop here to soak up the atmosphere and work up an appetite because it’s time to head off for lunch by minibus or an optional 20-minute walk along the Brisbane River.
Depending on the day you book, you’ll relax with a superb lunch at one of our two favourite craft breweries, and you’ll have the opportunity to taste the house beers.
The Green Beacon Brewing Co isn’t a Champion Brewery for nothing. It’s won awards for its core range of maritime-themed craft beers that range from the vibrantly tart 7 Bells ale to the complex earth Penny Porter oatmeal stout and everywhere in between. The Beacon’s menu is varied and the crew prides themselves on working with local producers to create seasonal, scrumptious menus that complement their craft ales.
An alternate spot for a delicious lunch is the urban-cool Newstead Brewing Company, which has big, shiny architecture with huge windows into the brew room, so you can watch the brewers at work. Take your time to relax and enjoy your food but, with a choice of 32 draught beers and some cheeky guest beers, choosing what to drink will be tough.
After you’ve had time to rest and recharge, it’s time to hop back aboard the minibus for the final treat of the day, a sophisticated wine-tasting in the Edward St district. With high-end shops and independent boutiques as well as a rich array of heritage-listed buildings, Edward St has an up-tempo, chic atmosphere that serves as a special backdrop for your wine-tasting experience where you’ll sample five spectacular wines. After you’ve totally chilled out, it’s time for you to be chauffeured back to your chosen drop-off point in time for dinner.
